Why am I doing the LIFEWISE Big Sleepout?

I think this is an outstanding initiative. It is very affecting in a number of ways including drawing media and society’s attention to the deprivation of a group of people, of both genders and all ages, that exists within Auckland City and the CBD in particular.

It provides the opportunity for one of Auckland’s oldest church based service organisations to present their plans and strategies to eliminate homelessness from the city. It is an innovative fund raising initiative.

Last year people generously contributed through me to LIFEWISE – to those people I am hugely grateful. I suspect some contributors; some old mates in particular, did it with a vicarious desire to see me suffer a night of discomfit. Quite apart from the fact that I had 10 years of boarding at a private school and know all about discomfit, I am delighted to be asked to participate again in 2011 and I look forward very much to this year’s Big Sleep Out.
