Jacinda Ardern is a Labour List MP based in Auckland Central. With responsibility for Employment and Youth Affairs, Jacinda passionately advocates social justice; human rights, equality and democracy. In particular, she is focused on raising the profile of issues that affect youth, such as helping to solve the high levels of youth unemployment and youth homelessness in New Zealand.

Why am I doing the LIFEWISE Big Sleepout?

I took part in the LIFEWISE Big Sleepout last year. After that experience, and seeing the ongoing role and impact of LifeWise in the area I work, I really wanted to get involved again.

A few years ago, I also worked in a soup kitchen in New York and saw first-hand the impact of homelessness. It's not just about sleeping rough - it’s about the many, many families who are transient and don't have a place to call home. I really want to see the issue of homelessness on everyone’s agenda, and the Big Sleepout is a great place to start. I feel really honoured to have a chance to be a small part of it again.
