About me

Dr Rick Ede has been Chief Executive of Auckland’s Unitec Institute of Technology since April 2008.

Since then, Rick has been responsible for catalysing some significant changes at Unitec, and committing Unitec to its aspiration of being a world-class, world-scale Institute of Technology that is an agent of economic, social and environmental transformation. He is passionate about the transformative power of education, and the role that Unitec plays in equipping people to realize their aspirations, and make a real contribution to their communities.

He has a diverse background as an educator, scientist and strategic leader, often working at the interface between public and private sector organizations.

He holds a Masters degree and a DPhil in chemistry from the University of Waikato, where he spent some time as a Senior Lecturer. Dr Ede has consulted to industry and educational organizations in Asia and North America, co-authored a number of research papers, is an alumnus of the London Business School and a Member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
